“My CrossFit journey began 11 weeks post pregnancy in the hope of losing some of the weight I had gained. I signed up for the Women’s Beginner Boot Camp in January and set my goal to lose a stone by the end of the eight weeks. My first class I left my ass on the mat but I walked out feeling accomplished. This isn’t your typical “gym” this is CrossFit. This is every exercise brought down to your level of fitness and broken down into stages of progression. Never once did I feel like I couldn’t complete an exercise or at the very least attempt it. By week four I checked the scale, I was down 15lb! I had smashed through my weight loss goal! I couldn’t believe it. I have tried exercising before along with different diets and never gotten such brilliant results. The “diet” isn’t a diet really. Its Clean Eating. Martin showed us that by even making simple changes in our daily diet that we could achieve results.

Each week the workouts steadily grew longer and more challenging but with the constant guidance and encouragement from the coaches I was completing them. At the end of the 8 weeks I had lost 22.5lb, gained a completely new perspective on eating properly and gained a huge amount of confidence as well as some fantastic new friends. The coaches are 110% dedicated to what they do. They are friendly and approachable and are always on hand to help and give advice through each session. I’m now in the WOD classes and even though I might be the last one on the mat some days Martin is still there pushing you to not give up, to dig deep and finish your reps. This is my new addiction. This is my new way of life.”

“In Feb 2014 I stepped over the doorstep of Fusion Training Centre to start the beginner CrossFit classes and what a great decision that has been. First let me say I didn’t know Martin at that time & just happened to be passing one day in January and saw the sign and popped in.

From the first night I will admit it was hard going, made even harder by my low fitness level. Martin was always there to spot if you weren’t following the correct techniques, but helped you very quickly understand where you were going wrong and worked with you to correct the issue immediately to prevent bad habits and remain injury free.

Within the first 2 weeks Martin ran a workshop on proper nutrition and gave several examples of a weeks menu to get everyone going. He also offered if anyone had any specific requirements he would tailor a plan for that member. Martin is always available to help or advise you via phone or face to face. On a couple of times over the past year I ran training/ nutritional concerns by him and Martin came up with a specific plan for me which within a couple of days started my progress once again towards my goals.

 So, 1 year on the WOD’s are still hard but in an enjoyable in way that only a CrossFit member can understand but the different is that I am faster carrying out each exercise and technically cleaner – and if I am not Martin is there straight away to point out my error and work with me to correct it. Personally, in one year I have dropped just over 4 stone, which has been a consistent drop over the year that Martin helped with from diet etc. My fitness level has increased by 100% in that year and as a result I feel healthy my energy levels are up I feel stronger and just able to cope with life’s day to day tasks easier. I have also have many new friends and caught up also with some old ones. “My journey with Cú Chulainn started 8 weeks ago when I signed up for the Beginners Boot Camp. I was stressing over my weight and poor fitness and really didn’t know where to start as my only form of exercise was a night of dancing in karma.

From the start it was such a relaxed environment that the first time nerves left promptly. Each workout is set to beginners fitness and even at that could be scaled back if needed. 8 weeks on I’m so grateful to the team and my new bootcamp buddies for my positive experience which has resulted in a 23lbs weight loss and reaching a fitness level I didn’t think I was capable of. Several reasons for this but most importantly I think is the holistic approach to fitness that encompasses the gym work and the invaluable nutritional advice. Martin was on hand in the first week with nutritional advice on a new meal plan, which hasn’t become a diet for short term, but a long lasting change of attitude towards food.

Martin was always on hand for support when needed but also for a laugh to get us through tough workouts. If it wasn’t for him I don’t think I would have lasted the full 8 weeks and enjoy it as much as I do. I cant believe the level and difficulty of exercises I am capable of now in just a few weeks. We had a great group of girls at our bootcamp always there cheering on anyone who was slow to finish the set (usually me!) but I was taking time to “make each move count”! I always look forward to the classes, and cannot wait to start the next stage of my journey with Cú Chulainn.”

“I have always been active but after I had finished college, I had no fitness routine whatsoever. I never liked the gym and always found it boring. I ended up joining various fitness classes and never lasted more than a month at them. Martin then suggested that I should try CrossFit. I was a bit skeptical, especially after viewing some YouTube videos I thought “I’m never going to be able for this”. I met with Martin prior to starting to discuss a nutritional plan. I was happy with my weight but I felt bloated all the time and heavy even though I was a healthy weight. He designed a plan for me which would keep me at my weight range but help me tone up.

My skepticism went out the window the minute I started! I have loved every minute from the very beginning. It has completely changed my life and I am hooked! The very first class I saw everyone heading to the bars to do pull-ups and I could barely do 10. A month after this I completed 100 pull-ups on the bar!! Even though the workouts are tough I don’t ever dread doing it and the sense of accomplishment I get after finishing the workout is brilliant. Everyday is different and everyone is so supportive of each other. It’s a mini family at the class.

After 2 months I went for a body check and  couldn’t believe the results. They were amazing! I had a metabolic age equivalent of a 14 year old, muscle mass of 41KG, and a visceral fat level of 1, (this is the fat packed around your internal organs and the lower the better: scale 1-12)!! I have never been more confident than I am right now and at my physical best. I still weigh the same weight as planned but the heavy bloated feeling is gone. Not only have I got myself hooked I have managed to get my friends addicted to. I continually ask people to come with me and all of them have returned! I highly recommend everyone to give it a go. I haven’t met anyone who has regretted going.”

“I was stuck in a rut and weighed 17.5 stone of misery. I used to run to try to manage my weight but then a hereditary heart problem arose and stopped my training. Waiting for a minor operation to fix it, my weight ballooned. I didn’t feel good about myself and it was affecting all aspects of my life. I could cycle and swim but nothing I seemed to do could shift my weight. I used to love training – the ‘feel good factor’ – but at that time, I felt nothing worked for me and being overweight was destroying any self-confidence I had.

Then I met Martin and he introduced me to CrossFit. From the first moment, I loved it! It was difficult to begin with but it was fun, structured and every class was different so I never got bored. Martin talked to me one-on-one about my diet and what goals I should set for myself to get back to feeling good again. The diet plan was easy to follow and Martin was always there to motivate me and give me a kick when I needed it!

When I returned to the hospital for a check-up 3 months later I was over 3 stone lighter! Even the doctors remarked that my heart was in great condition and I passed all tests with flying colours. I’ve started running again too! I have learned that running gives you some level of fitness but with Martin’s CrossFit classes you will get fit to live your life! Thanks Martin!”
